Ein Sof is a name for God. It means "unending" or "infinite."

In the study of Kabbalah, it describes God before any part of the world was made. It is a way to think about a being with no end.

Some thinkers say God has no thoughts or actions in this state. They call this the "Infinite Light." To make room for the world, a step called tzimtzum happened. This is when the light pulls back to create space. This space lets new things exist on their own.

From the Ein Sof, ten lights flow out. These are called sefirot. They are like energy parts on a "Tree of Life."

Think about water poured into a glass. The water takes the shape of the glass. But the water itself stays the same. The sefirot are like vessels for the light. They help us see different parts of the creator. Without the Ein Sof, these lights would not exist.

In modern Hebrew, people use the word "einsof" to mean infinity. It is a big idea used in science today.
