It is a very large interior space in Europe. The plain stretches from eastern Poland all the way to the Ural Mountains. It covers many different countries in this part of the world. This includes the Baltic states like Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. It also covers Belarus, much of Ukraine, and most of European Russia. Some parts reach north into Finland.

Most of this land is quite flat. However, the plain is not just one level surface. It is made of many different plateaus and hills. For example, the Volhynian-Podolian Upland sits on the western edge. The Central Russian Upland is another high area. On the eastern side, you will find the Volga Upland. The highest spot is the Bugulma-Belebey Upland. This area is near the Ural Mountains.

Water plays a big part in this landscape. The plain contains several major river basins. These are large areas where many rivers flow together. You can find the Dnieper Lowland here. The Oka–Don Lowland is another large basin. The Volga Basin is also part of the plain. Many important rivers run through these areas. These include the Volga, the Dnieper, and the Don rivers. Other rivers like the Ural and the Vistula also flow here.

This plain has many borders with other landforms. To the south, the land meets the Caucasus and Crimean mountain ranges. The Black Sea and the Caspian Sea are also nearby. In the north, the plain reaches the White Sea and the Barents Sea. The Ural Mountains mark its eastern edge. To the west, it sits near the North European Plain. This vast area is part of the Great European Plain. This is the biggest part of Europe without mountains.

Many different regions sit inside this giant plain. In Russia, there are places like the Valdai Hills. In Belarus, you can find the Polesia area. The plain also touches parts of Moldova and Romania. Even the Danubian Plain in Bulgaria is part of its southern reach. This makes the East European Plain a very important part of the continent. It connects many different lands and waters together.
