He studied how children grow and feel. He worked at a hospital for 40 years. He was a paediatrician, which is a doctor for kids. He also studied the mind.

Winnicott had many big ideas. One idea was about "holding." He said that when a mother cares for her baby, it helps the baby feel safe. This care helps a child grow up healthy. He thought this feeling of safety should spread to schools and families too.

He also spoke about "transitional objects." These are things like a soft blanket or a teddy bear. A baby uses these objects to feel safe. The toy acts like a bridge. It helps the baby move from being close to a mother to being part of the wider world. This helps children learn to play and be creative.

Winnicott wrote over 200 papers. He also wrote many books. His second wife, Clare, helped him with his work. He died in 1971. His ideas still help us understand children today.
