T. Berry Brazelton was a famous doctor for babies. He was a pediatrician. This means he specialized in caring for young children. He was born in Waco, Texas, in 1918. He studied at many great schools. He went to Princeton University and Columbia University. Later, he worked at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Brazelton wanted to help parents understand their babies. He believed that even newborns are very capable. He said babies can communicate through their behavior. For example, a baby might cry to get a response. He also thought babies are social. They react to the faces of their parents.

He created a special tool called the NBAS. This stands for the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale. It is a way to study babies up to two months old. The scale looks at 38 different behaviors. It helps doctors make a portrait of the baby. This portrait shows a baby's strengths and needs. This helps parents give the best care. Dr. Brazelton also wrote many books and spoke on TV. He wanted every child to grow and flourish.
