DC Talk was a very famous Christian music group. Three men formed the trio in 1987 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. The members were Toby McKeehan, Michael Tait, and Kevin Max Smith. They were known for making music that shared their faith. Some people even called them the most popular Christian act of all time.

The group's sound changed a lot as they grew. Their first two albums, DC Talk and Nu Thang, were mostly hip hop. Their third album, Free at Last, mixed hip hop with rock music. Later, their albums Jesus Freak and Supernatural focused on pop rock. This change helped them reach many different kinds of listeners. They even sang about important social issues like racism in the song "Walls."

Building the band took a lot of hard work. Toby McKeehan and Michael Tait first performed together at their university. They sold 3,000 copies of a demo tape called Christian Rhymes to a Rhythm. Later, Kevin Max Smith joined the group after a chapel performance. The three men moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to work on their music. They even lived together off the college campus to focus on the band.

DC Talk achieved many big milestones during their career. Their album Nu Thang sold over 500,000 copies and won two Dove Awards. The album Free at Last went platinum and won a Grammy Award in 1994. Their album Jesus Freak was a massive hit that reached number 16 on the Billboard 200. This album also earned them a second Grammy. They even toured across the United States, Canada, and Europe on the Freakshow Tour.

In 2000, the members decided to take a break to work on solo music. They released an EP called Solo to show their individual styles. Even though they were working alone, they still sang together sometimes. They reunited for special events like a cruise in 2017 and 2019. In June 2025, many radio stations stopped playing their music. This happened after allegations of sexual assault were made against Michael Tait.
