Crazy Eights

arts Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Crazy Eights is a fun card game for two to seven people. The goal is to be the first to get rid of all your cards. This is called a shedding-type game. You can play with one deck if you have five or fewer players. If you have more than five players, you must use two decks. This makes a total of 104 cards.

Each player gets five cards to start. In a game with only two people, you get seven cards. You play by matching the suit or the number on the top card. You can also play any 8 at any time. When you play an 8, you pick a new suit. The next player must follow that suit or play another 8. If you cannot play, you must draw cards from the pile. You keep drawing until you can make a move.

Many people add new rules to the game. Some use Queens to skip a turn. Others use Aces to change the direction of play. You can even use twos to make the next person draw cards. The game is very easy to change. This makes it a great way to play with friends.
