It is very popular in many countries. People have played it for a long time. It may have started in the late 1700s. Soldiers helped make the game well known. Later, many different people played it together.

Two to six people play the game. You use a deck of 36 cards. Each player gets six cards to start. One card is turned face up on the table. This card sets the trump suit. Trump cards are special. They can beat cards from any other suit.

One person starts an attack by playing a card. The player to their left must defend. They try to beat the card with a higher one. They can also use a trump card to defend. If the defender wins, they can start a new attack later. If they cannot beat the card, they must pick up all the cards played.

The goal is to get rid of all your cards. The last person with cards is the loser. In Russian, this person is called the durak, which means "fool."
