Computer animation is a way to make moving images.

Artists use computers instead of real actors or sets. This lets them make anything they can imagine.

To make movement, the computer shows many pictures very fast. We call each single picture a frame. If the computer shows 24 frames every second, the movement looks smooth.

If the frames change too slowly, the motion looks jerky. Most movies in theaters use 24 frames per second.

There are different ways to animate. Some artists make flat, 2D images. Others make 3D models. In 3D animation, artists build shapes on the screen. They often give these shapes a virtual skeleton.

This helps them move limbs or eyes easily.

An artist sets "key frames." These are the most important parts of a move. The computer then uses interpolation to fill in the rest. Interpolation is a way to make the computer draw the middle steps automatically. This saves a lot of work for the artist.
