Long ago, people used tools like the phenakistiscope. This was a spinning disc with slits. You looked through the slits at a mirror to see motion.

Today, artists use many different ways to animate. Traditional animation uses hand-drawn pictures on clear sheets called cels. Some people use stop motion. This means they move real objects, like clay or puppets, bit by bit.

Animation is used in many places. You can see it in movies and video games. It is also in short cartoons. Many cartoons use funny, exaggerated styles. They often show animals or heroes on big adventures.

Some famous characters include Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Animation is a way to bring many stories to life.
