Broad Peak

geography Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Broad Peak is a very tall mountain. It sits in the Karakoram range. This range is on the border of Pakistan and China. It is the 12th highest mountain in the world. The name fits the mountain well. Its summit is very long. It stretches for over 1.5 kilometers. This makes the top look wide.

Broad Peak is part of a group called the Gasherbrum massif. It has five different summits. Three of these summits are over 8,000 meters high. These include the main Broad Peak, Rocky Summit, and Broad Peak Central. The other two peaks are lower.

A team from Austria first climbed the mountain in 1957. They did not use extra oxygen to help them breathe. Many people have climbed it since then. In 2013, a Polish team made the first winter climb. This was a very hard task. In 2019, a 17-year-old boy named Shehroze Kashif climbed it. He was the youngest person ever to reach the top. Climbing this mountain is a big challenge for many people.
