Many peaks in the Karakoram are very tall. Four of these mountains are over 8,000 meters high. This includes K2, which is the second-highest mountain on Earth. Other high peaks are Gasherbrum I, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum II.

The Karakoram is a very icy place. It is the most glaciated place on Earth outside of the poles. This means it has more ice than almost anywhere else. You can find huge sheets of ice called glaciers here. The Siachen Glacier and the Biafo Glacier are two very long ones.

Some glaciers are covered in black gravel. This layer of rock helps keep the ice cold by blocking the sun. The range is a rugged and wild place to explore.
