He changed how the government worked through many big reforms. He split officials into two separate groups. One group handled military tasks. The other group handled civil tasks. This helped the kingdom run more smoothly. He also created a system called sakdina in 1454. This system used land to give people a specific rank. These changes lasted for a very long time.

Borommatrailokkanat had a very busy early life. He was born in 1431 to King Borommarachathirat II. When he was seven, he became the viceroy of Sukhothai. A viceroy is like a deputy king. He moved to Phitsanulok when he was fifteen years old. This city was the new capital for the northern territories. He ruled there to help his family keep control of the land.

He also had to lead his people through hard times. A powerful group called Lan Na attacked his lands. The Lan Na armies tried to take Sukhothai and Ayutthaya. King Borommatrailokkanat led his own armies to fight them. He even moved his capital to Phitsanulok to stay close to the wars. In 1461, he became a Buddhist monk at Wat Chulamani. He also built many new temples and buildings during his reign.

His family and his rules left a lasting mark. He used the title Uparaja for his senior sons. This was a way to help decide who would be the next king. In 1485, he named his son Prince Chaiyachettha as the King of Sukhothai. When the king died in 1488, his two sons ruled separate kingdoms. Today, a military base in Phitsanulok is named after him. He is still remembered as one of the greatest monarchs.
