His rule helped turn a small area into a large and strong land. He is remembered for bringing different kingdoms together. This helped create a major center for trade in the region. People still study his life to understand how Aceh began.

Ali grew his kingdom by winning many battles. He first took control of Daya in 1520. After that, he conquered Pidie in 1521. He also took Pasai in 1524. His brother, Raja Ibrahim, was a great military leader who helped him. They worked together to expand the borders of Aceh. These victories made the sultanate a very powerful force in Sumatra.

There are many stories about how the royal family started. Some stories say the family came from heavenly nymphs called bidadaris. Other stories say the leaders came from places like Champa or Arabia. One account says a prince named Syah Poling fled Champa in 1471. He is said to have started the royal line in Aceh. These different stories show how much people wonder about the past.

During his rule, Ali had to face the Portuguese. The Portuguese arrived in the area to control trade routes. In 1521, a Portuguese leader named Jorge de Brito attacked Aceh. He brought a fleet of 200 men to the capital. Sultan Ali was ready for the fight. He marched out with about 800 to 1,000 men. He even used six elephants to help his army win.
