It is a vital part of a large urban corridor. This area connects Biratnagar to towns like Itahari, Dharan, and Biratchowk.

The recorded history goes back to the 7th century. A leader named King Mung Mawrong Hang once ruled these lands. He cleared much of the forest to build a town. The city was originally known as Gograha Bazaar. In 1914, a governor named Colonel Jit Bahadur Khatri moved many important offices here. This helped turn the area into a modern center. Later, in 1919, the town was given the name Biratnagar. This name comes from the ruins of an old palace.

Today, the city is a major center for business and industry.
