Instead of just listing rules, he wrote the book as a long conversation. It is a series of talks between people at a royal court. The characters discuss how to act with grace and good manners. They talk about being polite and having high morals. This book became very important to leaders in the 16th century. It showed people how to be elegant in their daily lives.

Much of his life was spent at the beautiful court of Urbino.
