It uses the shape of a book to share ideas. Some are made in small batches. Others are made in large numbers for many people to own.

These books come in many forms. Some look like normal books. Others are long scrolls or fold-outs. Some even come as loose items in a box.

Artists use many tools to make them. They use painting, drawing, and printing. They may even use things they find, like old newspapers.

In the past, William Blake made very special books. He and his wife, Catherine, wrote and bound them by hand.

Later, groups like the Futurists used books to spread new ideas. They wanted art to be easy to find. This helped people see art without going to a museum.

Some artists like to break the rules. Dieter Roth made books with holes in them. This let readers see many pages at once. Ed Ruscha made a famous book of photos. It showed gas stations along a road.
