They met during the 1960s and 1970s. They were poets, designers, and musicians. They also worked with video and dance. Many members were part of a big community. They even acted like they were in a laboratory.

This means they loved to test new ideas.

Fluxus artists did not focus on a finished product. Instead, they loved the way they made art. They used chance to help them work. This was inspired by a composer named John Cage. He taught that art can happen in many ways. Some artists also used "readymades." These are ordinary objects that people call art.

George Maciunas helped start the group. He chose the name Fluxus in 1961. He wanted to name a magazine. The group held many festivals. These took place in cities like London and New York.

Many artists worked together. They even made special boxes of art. One was called a Flux box. These boxes held many small works. It was a way to share art with others.
