This movement began in the 1960s and 1970s. Artists use things found on-site. They use rocks, soil, water, and plants. Many works are far from big cities.

Some artists do not want to sell their work in shops. They want to focus on nature instead.

Some works are very large. Robert Smithson made a famous piece called Spiral Jetty.

Andrew Rogers made a large work called Bunjil. It uses 1,500 tonnes of rock.

Land art can change over time. Nature can cover the art with plants. Some new art helps the planet. It can act as a home for animals. It can even help clean the water.
