He was born on August 18, 1750, in a town called Legnago. He spent most of his life working in Vienna. Salieri was a master of opera, which is a stage play told through music. He wrote over 35 original operas during his long career. His music helped shape the way opera was written for many years. People in many different countries performed his works during his lifetime.

Salieri had a very busy way of making music. He often mixed different styles together to create something new. For example, he combined ballet and singing in his opera Armida. He also liked to use many different languages in his shows. In his opera La Fiera di Venezia, characters sang in three languages. He even created new ways for singers and instruments to work together. These new ideas became very popular with other composers later on.

His journey to becoming a master began with many teachers. He first studied music at home with his older brother, Francesco. Later, a composer named Florian Leopold Gassmann took him to Vienna. Gassmann paid for Salieri's education and helped him grow. Salieri studied many things like Latin, Italian poetry, and German. He also learned how to write music using complex rules. This deep study helped him become a leader in the musical world.

Salieri held many important jobs in the city of Vienna. From 1774 to 1792, he was the director of Italian opera. He also served as the imperial Kapellmeister from 1788 to 1824. This meant he was in charge of music for the royal court. He was a very famous teacher to many great musicians. His students included Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert. Even when his own music was not played often, he remained a sought-after teacher.

Sometimes, people told stories about Salieri that were not true. For a long time, rumors said he was a rival to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Some people even claimed he was responsible for Mozart's death in 1791. However, experts have proven that these rumors were false. Salieri and Mozart were likely respectful peers who worked in the same circles. These untrue stories were very hard on Salieri during his life. Today, people study his real history and his wonderful music.
