He lived in the Republic of Venice in Italy. His father, Antonio, was a wealthy merchant who sold paper. This wealth helped Tomaso in a special way. He did not need to work for a king or a church. He could make music because he had his own money. This allowed him to focus on his many different musical works. He wrote many kinds of music, including operas and sonatas.

Albinoni wrote many different types of music for people to play. He wrote operas, which are stories told through singing. He also wrote sonatas for small groups of instruments. A concerto is a piece where one instrument plays with an orchestra. Albinoni was very important for the oboe, a wood instrument with a bright sound. He was the first Italian known to use the oboe as a solo instrument in concertos. He wrote many pieces for the oboe between 1705 and 1719. His instrumental music was very popular and often printed in many places.

His life was filled with many important people and places. He studied how to sing and play the violin. In 1694, he gave his first collection of music to Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. He also worked with leaders like the Duke of Mantua and the Grand Prince of Tuscany. He married a woman named Margherita Rimondi in 1705. The couple had six children together. Albinoni became famous in many Italian cities like Genoa, Bologna, and Naples. He even traveled to Munich to direct operas in 1722.

Albinoni left behind a huge amount of musical work. He claimed to have written 81 operas during his life. Most of these operas are lost today because they were never printed. However, he left nine collections of instrumental music that people still enjoy. These include 99 sonatas, 59 concertos, and 9 sinfonie. Some of his music was lost during World War II in a fire. Sadly, he died in Venice in 1751 at the age of 79. He died from a sickness called diabetes mellitus.

Many other great musicians studied the music Albinoni created. The famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach liked Albinoni's ideas very much. Bach even wrote two fugues using themes from Albinoni's music. Today, many people recognize a piece called "Adagio in G minor." Some people thought a man named Remo Giazotto wrote it much later. However, new discoveries suggest it might be based on Albinoni's old music. This shows how his musical ideas still matter to us today.
