Schubert was so talented that he soon became better than his teachers. He even played the viola with his brothers in a family group. This early practice helped him learn how to write his own music.

As a young man, Schubert studied very hard. In 1808, he went to the Stadtkonvikt school on a scholarship. There, he learned about the music of great masters like Mozart and Beethoven.

Schubert did not live a very long life. He died in 1828 at the age of 31. The official cause of his death was typhoid fever.
