In 1912, Wegener had a big idea. He said the continents move slowly. He called this continental drift. He thought the lands drift around the Earth.

Most experts did not believe him at first. It was not until the 1950s that they found proof. This proof helped lead to our ideas about plate tectonics. Plate tectonics is the study of how the Earth's surface moves.

Wegener also studied storms. He wrote about tornadoes. He even looked at how the climate changed in the past. In 1930, he went on his last trip to Greenland. He led a large team to study the thick ice. During this trip, Wegener died in the cold. His work still helps us understand our world today.
