He studied how the Earth works. He was a geophysicist, which means he studied the physical Earth. He was also a meteorologist. This means he studied the weather.

Bjerknes made big changes in how we guess the weather. He made math rules called primitive equations. These rules help us make climate models. A climate model is a way to study how weather changes over time. These rules are still used today.

He also studied electricity. When he was young, he built tools to show how magnets work. He used spheres and discs in a thick liquid like syrup. These tools helped people understand electric waves. This work helped make wireless telegraphy possible. This is a way to send messages without wires.

Bjerknes started a group of thinkers called the Bergen School of Meteorology. This group helped make modern weather reports better. His son, Jacob, also studied the weather.
