One group studies meteorology. They focus on the weather. They want to predict if it will rain or shine. Other scientists study climatology. They look at weather patterns over very long times. This helps them understand how the climate changes.

Some experts study atmospheric chemistry. They look at the gases in the air. They study how these gases affect living things. This helps us understand global warming. They also look at how humans change the air.

There is also aeronomy. This is the study of the very top layers of the air. Scientists use tools like satellites and weather balloons to learn more. They even study other worlds. All planets in our solar system have atmospheres. This is because gravity holds the gas near the surface. Some planets have huge storms. Jupiter has a big storm called the Great Red Spot. Even Venus has a thick atmosphere for us to study.
