Earth science is the study of our planet. It looks at how different parts of Earth work together. Scientists study four main spheres. The lithosphere is the rocky surface. The hydrosphere is all the water on Earth. The atmosphere is the air around us. The biosphere is all living things.

Geology is a big part of Earth science. It is the study of rocks and the ground. It also looks at how the Earth changes over time. Deep inside, the mantle is very hot. This heat moves the plates of the crust. This movement is called plate tectonics. It can make mountains or volcanoes.

Scientists also study the air. They look at the atmosphere. It has five layers. The lowest layer is the troposphere. This layer holds most of the air's mass. The atmosphere keeps Earth warm. It also has a shield called a magnetosphere. This shield protects us from solar wind.
