He is famous for his ideas about neo-Eurasianism. This is a belief system about how countries should work together. He thinks Russian-speaking people should be part of one large country.

This idea is meant to create a strong Euro-Asian empire. Dugin wants this empire to stand against the power of the West. He specifically wants to challenge the United States and its influence.

Dugin's work focuses on how land and power interact. He calls this study geopolitics. In 1997, he wrote a major book called Foundations of Geopolitics.

In this book, he suggests Russia should build alliances to gain influence. He uses the term "Atlanticist" to describe the Western empire led by the U.S. He wants to build a new empire based on a common enemy. This enemy would be the spread of liberal values. He believes a strong state and religion are very important for society.

Dugin grew up in a family with military ties. His father was a colonel-general in the Soviet military intelligence agency.

In the 1980s, Dugin was an anti-communist dissident. This means he spoke out against the government of that time. He was part of a group called Pamyat in 1988. Later, in 1993, he helped start the National Bolshevik Party. He worked with a man named Eduard Limonov for a few years. He eventually left that party in 1998 after they had disagreements.

His ideas come from many different thinkers and traditions. He has studied the writings of René Guénon and Julius Evola.

He also uses ideas from Martin Heidegger and Carl Schmitt. Some people describe his views as far-right or even fascist. However, Dugin says he rejects fascism and Marxism. He instead calls for a "conservative revolution" in Russia. He wants to protect national interests through patriotic media and strong traditions. He even studied the ideas of Herman Wirth for two years.

Today, Dugin is a well-known figure in Russian politics. He has taught at Moscow State University for several years.

He is also a strong supporter of President Vladimir Putin. Some people in foreign news call him "Putin's brain." Others believe his actual influence is not as large as it seems. In 2022, his daughter Darya died in a car bombing. This was a very difficult and personal event for him. His life and ideas continue to be studied by many people around the world.
