Australia has a special song called "Advance Australia Fair."

It is the national anthem. A man named Peter Dodds McCormick wrote it in 1878. He felt a sudden spark of ideas while riding a bus. He wrote the words and music very quickly.

For a long time, Australia used a different song. It was called "God Save the Queen." In 1974, the government chose Peter's song instead. Later, there were many votes to pick the best song. People voted for "Advance Australia Fair" in a big poll in 1977. By 1984, it became the official anthem.

The song has changed over the years. The words were made to include all people. For example, the first line now says "Australians all." This makes the song feel fair to everyone. In 2021, the words changed again. This was to honor Indigenous Australians. Today, many people hear a grand version played by an orchestra.

This music is played at big sports events and celebrations. It helps people feel pride in their country.
