Long ago, an acre had a special meaning. It was the amount of land one man could plow in one day. He used a team of eight oxen to do the work. This land was often a long strip. It was 660 feet long and 66 feet wide.

Today, people still use acres to measure farms. In the United States, two types of acres are used. They are the international acre and the US survey acre. They are almost the same size. The difference is very small. For many people, an acre is about the size of a football field. It is just a little smaller than a full field. Many countries still use the acre to talk about land.
