Zhou wrote two very famous books. The first was called the Taiji Tu Shuo. This book explains a special diagram. This diagram is the taijitu, or the yin-yang symbol. It was the first major text to explore this symbol. His second book was the Tong Shu. This book helped set the rules for how people should act. It taught that a wise person should be sincere and calm. Zhou also loved nature very much. Stories say he loved his grass so much he would not cut it.

Many people were influenced by Zhou's work. He taught two nephews named Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi. These brothers started the Cheng-Zhu School. This school of thought lasted for over 700 years. A famous thinker named Zhu Xi also learned from Zhou's ideas. Zhu Xi thought Zhou was the first great sage of the Song dynasty. Zhou is often remembered as a kind and warm person. He compared a good person to a lotus flower.

He said a lotus is noble because it grows in dirty water but stays pure. His ideas about the yin-yang symbol are still known all over the world today.
