Cheng Hao was a famous thinker and leader from China. He lived during the Song dynasty. He was born in the city of Luoyang. His father was named Cheng Xiang. His father served as a local leader in Huangpi. Because of this, Hao grew up in Huangpi. He later passed a big test for scholars in 1057. This allowed him to work in many government roles. He served as a clerk and a director. He also worked as a minister of ceremony.

Cheng Hao had a younger brother named Cheng Yi. People often called them "The Two Chengs." They were students of a teacher named Zhou Dunyi. Together, they helped create a new way of thinking. This system is called Neo-Confucianism. They were pioneers of this new idea. They studied how the universe works. They looked at the stars and the heavens. They believed in a natural order called li. This order was the guiding power of the heavens.

His ideas about the world were very deep. He believed in two different parts of reality. One part is what we can touch. The other part is what we cannot touch. He thought a single principle was in everything. This principle is in all things we see. It is also in things we do not see. It is in human feelings and actions. It is even in how things move. He said this principle is like a mystery.

Cheng Hao was a very friendly man. He was known for being lively and outgoing. His brother Cheng Yi was different. He was known for being stern and serious. Hao wanted to help others learn. He started schools in Fugou and Songyang. He believed that studying could make people wise. He called these wise people sages. He thought learning was a way to reach this goal.

Many people remember Cheng Hao today. He is called one of the Six Masters of Northern Song. This group included other great thinkers. After he died in 1085, he received special titles. An emperor called him the "Lord of Purity" in 1220. Later, he was called the "Bo of Henan." His family also received special honors for many generations. His ideas helped shape how people thought for a long time.
