He lived a long time ago in the Middle Ages. He was also a composer of music. People consider him one of the greatest epic poets of his time. He wrote long stories and also short lyric poems. These poems are called Minnesang. He was a Minnesinger, which is a type of singer and poet. His work is still very important to German literature today.

Wolfram is most famous for his great story called Parzival.

This story is about the Holy Grail. In Wolfram's version, the Grail is a beautiful gemstone. He wrote this story based on an unfinished work by Chrétien de Troyes. Wolfram also wrote a story called Willehalm. This poem is about a hero and a war. It was based on an Old French story. He also wrote a work called Titurel. This story tells about characters named Schionatulander and Sigune.

We do not know much about Wolfram's real life. There are no historical documents that name him. His own writings are the only proof that he existed. Some people think he was born in a place called Wolframs-Eschenbach. This place is near Ansbach in Bavaria. However, this is not certain because there are other places with similar names. He may have worked for many different leaders at their courts. He likely served Hermann I of Thuringia. Wolfram often wrote about being a poor man.

Wolfram's writing was very popular for many years. There are 84 surviving copies of his story Parzival. The story Willehalm is also very common with 78 manuscripts. He wrote nine songs that survived to this day. Five of these are called dawn-songs. These songs tell of a knight who stays with a lady at night. He must leave her when the sun comes up. The lady or a watchman often wakes him. No melodies for these songs have survived.

Many people have been inspired by Wolfram's work. In 1753, a scholar named Johann Jakob Bodmer published a translation of Parzival. This helped people find his work again. Later, the composer Richard Wagner used the story of Parzival. Wagner used it to write his famous opera called Parsifal. Wagner also used Wolfram as a character in another opera. This opera is called Tannhäuser. Wolfram's stories continue to connect to music and art today.
