The Windward Islands are a group of islands.

They sit in the Caribbean Sea. They are near the North Atlantic Ocean. The islands go from Dominica in the north to Trinidad and Tobago in the south.

Wind helps give them their name. Trade winds blow from the east to the west. Sailing ships would hit these islands first. These islands are called "windward" because they face the wind. The islands to the west are called the Leeward Islands.

There are four countries in this group. One is Dominica. Another is Grenada. The third is Saint Lucia. The last is Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

One island is different. It is named Martinique. It is a part of France. This island is 7,000 kilometers away from Paris.
