He studied how money and trade change the world. He was an economist and a sociologist. A sociologist is someone who studies how people live in groups.

Sombart wrote a very big work. It had three volumes. He used these books to tell the history of capitalism. Capitalism is a way of organizing trade and business. He saw it grow in four stages. It started from old systems called feudalism. He called the first new stage proto-capitalism. Later, he described early, high, and late capitalism.

He also studied how people act in social movements. He wrote about how workers act together. Sombart had many different ideas. Some people liked his work. Others did not agree with him. He even wrote about how religion affects business. He thought about how different groups of people help build the modern world. His books are still studied by many people today.
