He studied art and how people lived. He was born in Jessen. He studied at many universities. Later, he taught at Leipzig. There, he started a center for world history.

Lamprecht had new ideas about the past. He did not just look at wars. He looked at how people felt. He studied social and economic history. He thought a nation's shared mind shaped history. He wrote a large set of books called Deutsche Geschichte. Many regular people liked to read them.

Other experts did not agree with him. They thought his way was not careful enough. This led to a big debate. Some scholars even pushed his ideas away. They did not want his methods in German schools.

Still, his ideas traveled far. People in France and the United States liked his work. His ideas helped start new ways of studying history. One of his students was Cai Yuanpei. Cai Yuanpei later helped change ideas in China. Lamprecht died in 1915.
