He was born in Dresden in 1834. As a young man, he had trouble hearing. This made it hard to work in public service. He studied at universities in Leipzig and Bonn. Later, he became a professor at many schools. One was in Berlin.

Treitschke had very strong political views. He wanted Germany to be a single, powerful state. He was a member of the Reichstag. This was a group of leaders in Germany. Because he could not hear well, an aide helped him. The aide wrote down what people said in meetings.

Many of his ideas were very unfair. He was a strong nationalist. This means he believed his country was better than others. He was not kind to many groups. He spoke against Jews, Catholics, and Poles. He even said that some people were inferior. These ideas caused much trouble later on.

He wrote many books. His big work was the History of Germany. He died in Berlin in 1896. He is buried in a cemetery there.
