Weihai is a large city in the Shandong province of China. It sits on the northeastern shore of the Shandong Peninsula. The Yellow Sea surrounds the city on three sides.

This makes it a major seaport city. Weihai is also the closest mainland Chinese city to South Korea. It is a busy place where many people live and work. By the year 2020, the population was about 2,906,548 people.

The weather in Weihai is shaped by the sea. It has a climate that changes with the seasons. This is called a temperate monsoon climate. Because of the ocean, the weather is often milder than places far inland. Summers are hot and humid. Most of the rain falls between June and September.

Winters are cold and dry. However, they are still warmer than the land deep inside the country. The city also gets a lot of sunshine throughout the year.

Weihai has a very long and interesting history. Long ago, tribes called the Dongyi lived in this area. In 1398, it became a military stronghold to stop pirates. At that time, it was called Weihaiwei.

Later, the city saw many changes between different countries. The British ruled the center of the city for many years. They even built a Royal Navy base on Liugong Island. The city became part of China again in 1930.

Today, Weihai is a very important center for business and industry. It is a major place for fishing and trade. The city also grows a lot of fruit and peanuts. Many people work in making things like electronics and machinery.

There are also special zones for high-tech science and new materials. Because it is so close to South Korea, many Korean businesses and tourists visit the city often.

Traveling in and out of Weihai is quite easy. You can fly to many places from the Weihai Dashuipo International Airport. The city also has a big railway station.
