This land sticks out into the sea on three sides. The Bohai Sea sits to the north. The Yellow Sea is to the south and east. Laizhou Bay is found in the northwest. The peninsula is 290 kilometers long from east to west. It is 190 kilometers wide from north to south. The total area is 73,000 square kilometers.

This place has a very interesting history. Long ago, the area was covered by thick forests. About 7,000 years ago, the Dongyi people lived there. They even had a kingdom called the State of Lai. Later, the State of Qi ruled the land. They built a part of the Great Wall here. During the Han dynasty, it was a place called the Jiaodong Kingdom. In the late 1800s, different countries wanted to control the area. Germany took control of the Kiautschou Bay area in 1898.

The weather in this region stays quite mild. This is because the sea is all around it. The peninsula has a monsoon climate. This means it has four distinct seasons. The sea helps keep the summer and winter temperatures gentle. The land is also quite hilly. These hills are great for growing many things. Because the air is humid, it is a good place for farming. You can find many tasty fruits here. People grow Laoshan honey peaches and Qixia apples. They also grow Laiyang pears and Dazeshan grapes.

Many different people call this place home. There are more than 200,000 Koreans living on the peninsula. Many South Korean companies have built factories in the region.

People also speak a special way of speaking called Jiaoliao Mandarin. This dialect spread from the peninsula across the sea to Northeast China. This happened because many people moved away by boat long ago. Today, many people from the Northeast actually move back to the peninsula. It is a very busy and connected place.

Today, the peninsula is a very rich and developed area. It is one of the most affluent regions in China. Some cities are very large and crowded. Qingdao has over 10 million people. Weifang has over 9 million people. Yantai has over 7 million people. Rizhao and Weihai also have large populations. The area is famous for making peanuts and silk. It is also known for aquatic products from the sea. The region continues to grow through new technology and trade.
