People visit these parks to swim, float, or bathe. You might see many different things at a park. Some have fast water slides or splash pads for kids. Others have lazy rivers where you can drift along. Some parks even have wave pools for surfing or bodyboarding.

These places bring people together for fun and leisure.

There are many ways to enjoy the water at these parks. Some areas are designed for high energy and excitement. Other parks are more like spas for relaxing. For example, SchwabenQuellen has no slides at all. Instead, it has saunas and steam rooms for resting. Some parks even have adventure showers for playing. One park in Indiana has ice skating under a large plaza. It uses cooling pipes under the ground to keep the ice frozen.

Water parks began as public swimming pools long ago. They grew in popularity during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Today, the United States has the largest water park market. There are over 1,000 parks in the United States alone. Dozens of new parks open every single year. Organizations like the IAAPA help manage the industry. Some parks are even built to look like mountain resorts. This helps them become places where people stay for many days.

Many famous water parks exist all around the world.

Some rides can be dangerous and cause injuries. In the United States, many people go to emergency rooms each year from slides. One park in Kansas City, Kansas, had a very sad accident. A ride called Verrückt closed forever after that event. People also use conveyor belts to help avoid long lines. These belts lift passengers to the top of rides. This helps everyone have a better time at the park.
