A Wankel engine is a special kind of motor.

Most engines use parts that move up and down. But a Wankel engine uses a spinning part called a rotor. The rotor looks like a triangle with curved sides. It spins inside a shell that is shaped like a figure-eight.

As the rotor spins, it makes three separate spaces. These spaces are called working chambers. Inside these chambers, the engine goes through four steps. It takes in fuel, squeezes it, burns it, and lets out the exhaust.

The force from the burning fuel pushes the rotor. This movement turns an eccentric shaft, which is a part that spins off-center. This turns the power into motion. This design is very small and light. It also has fewer parts than other engines. Because it is smooth, it works well in many things. You can find them in motorcycles, snowmobiles, and even some small planes.

Some people use them to help power electric cars too.
