Wang Bo was a famous poet in China during the Tang dynasty. He was one of the "Four Paragons of the Early Tang." This special group included writers named Luo Binwang, Lu Zhaolin, and Yang Jiong.

Wang Bo believed that poetry should express a person's mind. This idea is called "poetry expresses one's mind." He did not like the old "Gong Ti Style." That style focused only on being pretty. Instead, Wang Bo wanted poems to show real, deep emotions.

Wang Bo was a very gifted student from the start. He was born in the year 650. His family was very important in literature. His grandfather was a famous philosopher named Wang Tong. Wang Bo could write poems when he was only six years old. By the age of ten, he had finished reading the Classics.

He even had a special way of writing very fast. A writer named Duan Chengshi said Wang Bo would cover himself with a blanket. Then, he would write a whole piece in one single stroke. People called these quick works "belly drafts."

His life changed because of problems in the government. He worked for a man called Prince Pei. Wang Bo once wrote a funny piece called "Tao Doji Xi." It was a call-to-arms written in a joking way. This caused trouble with the Emperor, Gaozong. Later, Wang Bo killed a servant named Cao Da. This was a very serious mistake. It ended his career in politics and caused his father to be sent away.

Wang Bo wrote many important works even during hard times. His most famous piece is "Tengwangge Xu." This is a prose work about a pavilion. Many students in Chinese middle schools still study it today. He also wrote many "Fu." A Fu is a special kind of rhythmic writing. He wrote pieces called "Chunsi Fu" and "Cailian Fu."

These works helped change how people wrote during the Tang dynasty. He used his writing to show his true feelings about the world.

Even though he was talented, some people were critical of him. The famous poet Du Fu wrote poems that called his work "frivolous and shallow." Other history books said his style was "impetuous." A scholar named Wen Yiduo said people mocked him because his behavior was so romantic.

Wang Bo died at the age of 26. One story says he drowned while traveling on a boat. He was looking for his father in a place called Jiaozhi. His poems, like "Farewell to Prefect Du," are still known around the world today.
