The straw mushroom is a tasty food. People grow them in East and Southeast Asia. They often grow on beds made of rice straw. These mushrooms like warm places with lots of rain. They grow very fast. They can mature in just four or five days.

People eat them in many ways. Some eat them fresh. Others eat them dried or in cans. They are the third most eaten mushroom in the world. People can even use their broth to make soy sauce. This makes the sauce taste very rich.

Be careful when looking for them. Some poisonous mushrooms look like them. These are called death caps. You can tell them apart by their spore print. A spore print is a mark left by tiny seeds. Straw mushrooms leave a pink print. Death caps leave a white print.

One cup of these mushrooms has many good things. They have protein to help your body. They also have iron and zinc. They have many vitamins too. This makes them a very healthy food to eat.
