The death cap is a very dangerous mushroom.

It is the deadliest mushroom in the world. In fact, it causes 90% of all deaths from mushrooms each year. Even half of one mushroom can kill an adult human.

This mushroom has a cap that can be many colors. It may look pale green, olive, or even white. It has a white stem and white gills. The cap can feel sticky when it is wet. It can also look like mushrooms that are safe to eat. This makes it easy to mistake one for the other.

The death cap contains special poisons called amatoxins. These toxins are very strong. They do not change even if you cook them or freeze them. These toxins stop a cell from making proteins. Without proteins, the cell cannot work and it dies. This mostly hurts the liver and the kidneys.
