The Indian prawn is a small animal that lives in the sea. It likes to stay on sandy or muddy floors.

These prawns live in many warm places. They are found from Africa to China and Australia. People catch them in the ocean to eat. Many countries like India and Vietnam catch them.

Farmers also grow them in ponds. This is called aquaculture, which means farming in water. Some farmers use old rice fields to grow them. They wait for the rain to end before they start.

There are three main ways to farm them. The first way is simple and uses natural food. The second way uses more care and extra food. The third way is very busy. In this way, farmers use machines and give food many times a day. This helps them grow more prawns in small ponds.

To harvest the prawns, farmers often drain the water. This leaves the prawns in the empty pond. Then, people can pick them up by hand. These prawns are a very important food for many people.
