You can find them in the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans. They like to live on soft, muddy bottoms in deep water.

These shrimp have a very interesting way of growing. They are born as males. After about two and a half years, their bodies change. They become females. This change is called protandry.

Northern shrimp play a big part in the Arctic food web. They eat many things like tiny sea creatures. They also act as scavengers. This means they eat bits of food left behind by others.

People catch these shrimp for food. Many people think they taste sweet. In Canada, they are sold in bags at stores.

Scientists also use them for other things. They get a special tool called an enzyme from them. They also use the shrimp shell to make chitosan. This can help treat bleeding wounds or help soil in farms.
