Visa started a long time ago. In 1958, Bank of America started a program called BankAmericard.

It began in Fresno, California. At first, the program had many problems. It even lost about $20 million. But the bank fixed these issues. By 1961, the program began to make money.

In 1976, the name changed to Visa. A man named Dee Hock chose this name. He wanted a name that was easy to say in many languages. He wanted people to know the card was accepted everywhere. Today, Visa is a very large company. It helps move trillions of dollars every year. It uses secure data centers to keep things safe. These centers are in places like the United States, England, and Singapore.
