It is based in Palo Alto, California. The company makes two main things. First, it makes semiconductors. These are tiny chips that run machines. Most of its money comes from these chips. Second, it makes infrastructure software. This is the code that helps large computer systems work.

Broadcom grew by buying many other companies. In 2016, it bought Broadcom Corporation. This helped it get more patents. Patents are special rights to an idea. This made the company much bigger. Later, it bought CA Technologies and Symantec. These deals helped it move into the software business. In 2023, it finished a huge deal to buy VMware. This deal cost $69 billion.
