Viktor Shklovsky was a famous writer from Russia. He lived during a time of big changes. He studied how books and stories work. This is called literary theory. He was a leader in a group called Russian Formalism.

Shklovsky had a very special idea. He called it ostranenie. This is a word for making things feel new. He thought art should help us notice the world. Sometimes we see things so often that we stop noticing them. He wanted art to make us look again.

He also studied how stories are built. He looked at the difference between a story and a plot. A story is the order of what happens. A plot is how the writer shows those events to us.

Viktor did not just write books. He also worked on many films. He wrote scripts for many Soviet movies. He was one of the first people to write seriously about film. He was a very smart and lively thinker. His ideas still help people understand art today.
