He lived through many big changes in history. He was a military officer and a politician. He also worked as a diplomat in other countries. His choices during World War II changed how people talk today. Now, his name is used as a word for a collaborator. This means someone who helps an enemy during a war.

Quisling had a very bright start in his studies. He was born in 1887 in a place called Fyresdal.

He was very good at math and history. In 1905, he joined the Norwegian Military Academy. He earned the highest score of all the students. Later, he graduated from the Military College with a record score. This was the best score since the school started in 1817. He even met King Haakon VII because of his success.

Before the war, Quisling did important work helping people.

He worked with a famous explorer named Fridtjof Nansen. In 1922, they went to help during a famine in Russia. A famine is when there is not enough food for everyone. Quisling wrote a report that helped get aid to those in need. He also worked as a diplomat in the Soviet Union. He even helped manage British diplomatic affairs while living there.

His political ideas changed as time went on. In 1933, he started a political party called Nasjonal Samling.

His party did not win many seats in the government. On 9 April 1940, Germany invaded Norway. Quisling tried to take control of the country using the radio. This was the first time a coup was broadcast on the radio. He failed because the Germans wanted to work with the real government instead.

In 1942, Germany helped Quisling form a new government.

After the war, Norway held a trial for Quisling. He was found guilty of high treason and murder. He was executed at Akershus Fortress on 24 October 1945.
