He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Nazi Germany from 1938 to 1945. Ribbentrop was known for his many travels around the world. This experience made him seem like an expert on foreign affairs to other leaders. He eventually became a very close aide to Adolf Hitler. Some people in the Nazi Party did not like him very much. They thought he lacked talent and was not very intelligent.

Ribbentrop's early life took him to many different places. He was born in 1893 in the Kingdom of Prussia. As a young man, he lived in France, England, and Canada. In 1910, he moved to Canada to work for a bank. He also worked on the Quebec Bridge reconstruction. Later, he moved to New York and Boston to work as a journalist. He even started a small business in Ottawa to import German wine.

His political rise began when he joined the Nazi Party in 1932. He helped arrange secret meetings that led to Hitler becoming Chancellor. Ribbentrop used his house in Berlin for these important talks. In 1936, he served as the German ambassador to the United Kingdom. By February 1938, he was appointed as the Foreign Minister. He worked hard to please Hitler by supporting his most radical ideas. If Hitler suggested a plan, Ribbentrop would often suggest something even more extreme.

As Foreign Minister, Ribbentrop helped create several major international agreements. He helped broker the Pact of Steel, which was an alliance with Italy. He also signed the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact with the Soviet Union in 1939.

After World War II ended, Ribbentrop faced justice for his actions. He was arrested in June 1945. He was taken to the Nuremberg trials to answer for his role in the war. The court found him guilty of starting the war in Europe. He was also convicted for his role in enabling the Holocaust.
