Victor Pelevin is a famous Russian fiction writer.

He is known for making stories that feel like many things at once. His books mix real life with science fiction and magic. He also uses ideas from Buddhist philosophy. This means he writes about how the mind works and how people see the world. His style is often called postmodernist. This is a way of writing that uses many different layers. He blends pop culture with ancient traditions to create something unique. Many people find his work very interesting because it feels like a puzzle.

Pelevin has a very specific way of building his worlds. He weaves together the fantastic and the real. He might mix a fairy tale with a political story. He also uses irony, which is a way of being funny by saying the opposite of what is meant. His prose can feel like a dream or a wild adventure. Some critics say his work is part of a movement called New Sincerity. He likes to use many different types of writing styles in one book. He might use a parable, which is a simple story with a lesson. He also uses utopias, which are stories about perfect worlds.

Pelevin was born in Moscow on November 22, 1962. His father, Oleg, was a teacher at a military university. His mother, Zinaida, was an English teacher.

Before he became a famous writer, he studied hard in school. He graduated from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1985. He earned a degree in electromechanical engineering. After school, he worked as an engineer for a short time. He also served in the Russian Air Force. Later, he went to the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute to study creative writing. He even worked as a reporter for a magazine called Face to Face.

His writing career has been very successful. He published his first short story, "The Sorcerer Ignat and People," in 1989. His first collection of stories, The Blue Lantern, won the Russian Little Booker Prize in 1993.

One of his most famous books is Generation P. It was published in 1999 and has sold over 3.5 million copies around the world. He has won many other awards, like the Russian National Bestseller in 2004. In 2011, he was even nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. He has written many books, including Empire V and S.N.U.F.F. He often releases a new book or story collection almost every year.

Even though he is a famous author, Pelevin is a very private person. He does not use social media sites like Facebook or Twitter. He rarely goes out in public or gives interviews. Because he stays so hidden, people have made many rumors about him. Some people even joke that he is not a real person. They suggest he might be a computer or a group of writers working together.

He prefers to talk about how the mind works rather than his own life. He travels to many places in Asia, such as Nepal, China, and Japan. He continues to write many new books, like Journey to Eleusis and Krut'.
